What are Essential Oils?

Essential Oils

Essential oils are basically aromatic compounds found in bark, roots, seeds, stems, flowers, and other parts of a plant. They are extremely fragrant, and if you have ever walked by lavender or other flowers, you have likely experienced that potency. Protection from predators and disease is also provided via essential oils in plants. The oils are phytochemicals which are made up of volatile compounds. They are fat soluble but don't include fatty acids which are found in animal and vegetable oils. They are crisp to the touch and almost immediately absorbed by the skin. The oils are translucent and range in color from clear to lighter blues. If you've ever squeezed the peel of a ripe orange; the residue left on your hands is an essential oil.

In addition to their benefits to the plant the oils have been used for healing and medicinal purposes by humans for years. Modern science and holistic medicine use these oils frequently for a number of ailments. The oils we sell are safe, pure, and the most beneficial you can find today. They are harvested by experienced growers to get the ideal extract consistency and efficacy. If you are an experienced user of the oils you will immediately realize the safety and quality of our oils. We guarantee it or your money back.

Our Essential Oils Are 100% Pure

With this being said they are extremely strong in their concentrated form. When using the oils, there are a few things to keep in mind...

Most of the essential oils should be diluted prior to use. A carrier oil (almond, coconut, olive oil, grapeseed, etc), should be used for dilution purposes.

To test sensitivity take a few drops of the carrier oil and place it in a jar, along with a few drops of the essential oil. Place a small dab on the wrist or an area of your arm and wait for a period of 24 hours. With undiluted oils it is important to avoid using them with pets. Especially cats as certain properties can be toxic to them. For women who are pregnant or individuals with a serious health problem it is also important to use these oils with caution and if possible to seek medical attention from your doctor before you use them.

Prior to use it is important to understand the properties of these oils and contraindications, to guarantee the best results with use.

History of Essential Oils

Throughout history these oils have been used for a variety of purposes. Egyptians were early users for medicinal and beauty uses, food prep, and even religious ceremonies. Sandalwood, cinnamon, Frankincense, and other oils were considered extremely valuable and sometimes even exchanged for gold. The Greeks borrowed the tradition from the Egyptians and used the oils for aromatherapy and therapeutic massages. The Romans used the oils for personal hygiene. The Chinese and Indian cultures were also influenced using the oils for aromatic herbs. The Persians began the distillation process of the oils. The oils were used during the dark ages in Europe for antibacterial and fragrant properties.

In 1937 the healing powers of these oils was rediscovered by Rene-Maurice Gattefosse, a French chemist. He used the oil to heal a badly burnt hand. During WWII, a known French doctor, Dr. Jean Valnet, treated wounded soldiers with these oils. And modern use of the oils has grown rapidly by scientists and medical professionals. Continued research validates the benefits and many uses of the oils.

Uses of Essential Oils

A wide range of emotional and physical uses revolve around essential oils. One at a time or a complex blend of oils can be used for treating different conditions. They are generally administered in one of two ways which are: aromatically diffused or topical application.

Aromatic uses

Hormone stimulation and metabolic processes are a few conditions controlled by our sense of smell. Essential oils are widely used for aromatherapy applications. Certain oils when diffused in the air can be stimulating, and others are used to calm and soothe. Purification of unwanted odors is another benefit of these oils. Low or no heat difussers are best, as they don't change the chemical property of the oils. The oils can also be used for cleansing or purifying in the laundry and around the home.

Topical uses

The molecular composition makes the oils readily absorbed by the skin. Immediate and localized benefits can be realized with use. Calming and restorative properties make the oils great for massage purposes. They can also be used as natural disinfectants. The chemical composition of the oils also makes them readily absorbed by the bloodstream, for even more immediate effects.
